Wearing the Right Colours: Fashion Tips for Summers, Winters, Autumns and Springs

Monday 11 August 2014

Every woman has heard people give her compliments when she wears a certain colour.  You may not always understand why certain colours look good on you and others just don’t.  There are certain colours that most women can carry off, like black, for example.  However, other colours, like yellow, white, pink and magenta, are harder to wear.

One way to figure out what colours you should wear is by considering whether your complexion makes you a summer, winter, autumn, or spring.  Keep in mind that these are just some general fashion tips.  Many women have skin that crosses over from one type into another.  However, these tips are equally applicable to women of all colours.  Whether you’re White, Black, Brown or Asian, you can still figure out whether you’re a summer, winter, autumn or spring.
Summer.  Some women have a very warm look.  Not only do they have yellowy overtones to their skin but their undertones—the colour you generally see in your cheeks when you’re flushed—are also warm.  If you generally get compliments wearing neutrals like navy blue, cream or black, you may be a summer.  But summers can also get away with wearing really bright colours.  The trick is to keep your bright colours on the cool side so that they form a contrast with your skin.

Winter.  Women who are winters generally have a cool skin tone and cool undertones as well.  That pink in their cheeks which comes out when they’re flushed might have a bluish tinge.  Their lips tend to be dry and so does their skin.  These women look amazing in white and other pastel colours.  Cool blacks and blues can also do the trick but won’t be as eye-catching as exotic colours like turquoise, purple or lilac.

Autumn.  Women who are autumns have an overall warm look with some cool elements.  Their hair and skin might be warm but their eyes might be of a cool colour.  Or maybe their skin and eyes have a warm look but their hair is of a cooler shade.  Autumns look great in most autumnal colours.  They are lucky enough to be able to carry off rich reds, browns, olive greens etc. but don’t look that striking in lighter tones which tend to wash them out.

Springs.  Women who are springs generally tend to have a delicate look.  Their skin tones are bright but not as over-the-top as those of autumns.  Generally, their overtones are warm but their undertones are cool.  So they start looking more wintry when they are flushed.  Springs look great in spring colours like pink, fuchsia, magenta, blue and yellow.  However, they need to be careful about not wearing clothes that are too bright or they might end up looking washed out.
